Andrew learned guitar in his early teens by playing along with his sister’s blues records, but it was her Fairport Convention albums that sent him in search of his local folk club. Having realised that posing at the front of a rock band was not for him, he switched to bass, formed Truss & Bucket Band and embarked on a healthy regime of playing ceilidhs.
Over the years he’s also played blues with Lowell Fulson & D.C. Brown, Cajun with The Crayfish Five, Zydeco with Rockin’ Sidney, African pop with The John Howarth Band, acoustic folk with Home & Colonial, Allegiance, The Three Bernards and country dance music with, amongst others, The Lantern Band, Contraflow, MoonDance.
Andrew also formed and played bass with Fiddlin’ Around until their break up at the end of 2007. In their decade together they became widely regarded as one of the best contra dance bands in the UK.
He renounced his decision not to play electric guitar in public when invited to join Stömp in 2003 and happily indulges in some front-of-stage posing. It's different when you're in your 40s.
Andrew also collaborates as musician & producer with singer/songwriter Martyna on her live performances & various album releases, which include contributions from members of Stömp.
